God Brought You Out for a Reason; When a Bad Relationship Ends, Don't Go Back

It was a Monday and I was three weeks removed from the relationship with the serial cheater I had fallen head-over-heels in love with and I was feeling good. Just in case you didn’t read my testimony about the break-up that turned into a breakthrough for me, I recommend that you check it out here before continuing.

Even though I still cried a lot, I had also made a lot of progress. I’m not going to lie. There were days I wanted to answer my ex’s phone calls so badly, even after he did me wrong. And when he had the nerve to come by my Sweet Ma’s house one afternoon looking for me, I wanted to run outside and tell him how much I missed him. But my grandmother wasn’t having that.

I had never h
eard  this short, silver-haired woman’s voice sound so strong and convincing as when she told him (while holding a broom, mind you), “You better never come back ‘round here!”

He
never came back either.

But still, my heart was completely tied to the man who shamelessly did me dirty. I missed his voice, scent, touch, and laugh.

I missed everything about him.

I missed us.

Unfaithful Man; Faithful God: The Hurt that Introduced me to Jesus

“He must be crazy!” I thought to myself.

But then, I heard a voice speaking back to me telling me to “Look at myself, not him.”

I knew no one else, other than my boyfriend, was in the room, but I could hear someone other than him talking to me. At that time, however, I didn’t know enough about God to recognize His voice. Now I realize it was Him talking as I sat on the edge of my bed that January night, crying so hard, after seeing an inappropriate text message from “my man” to another woman.

Usually, his phone was glued to his hip. But that night, after coming down with a fever, sore throat, and body aches, he fell asleep after taking some cold medicine.

I believe God allowed it to happen.

I Want to be a Wife, Not a “Wifey”: Expecting & Waiting for Real Commitment

Gabrielle Union, Host of the BET Honors, cracked a joke that had everyone laughing out loud.

The girlfriend of 29-year-old Miami Heat player, Dwayne Wade, said, "Why are you crying on the floor after your loss to the Dallas Mavericks? You have a ring! I should be the one crying. Where's my ring?"

Then she looked at her bare ring finger and had the whole auditorium in stitches.

I’m sure after the knee-slapping laughter stopped, most people thought nothing more of her commentary outside the context of humor. And she got what she wanted out of the deal—a moment of levity.

These days, living together and having a sexual relationship outside of wedlock is viewed as the norm in most sectors of society. The most recent Census Bureau report on families and living arrangements shows an estimated 7.6 million unmarried couples lived together, including many who are raising children. Statistics also show that within 3 years, one of two things typically happens; the couple marries or breaks up.

The Most Touching Love Story of 2011: Lakeasha and Cris Draft Loved Until the End

My single, saved, and satisfied status does not change the fact that I am a hopeless romantic. I cry while watching romantic comedies and I stay glued to inspiring stories about true love. Please tell me I am not EEW Magazine’s only sappy single lady!

There’s just something so touching, special, and beautiful about seeing a couple devoted to each other through thick and thin. Witnessing genuine devotion between two people in a committed marital relationship helps me continue to believe in the power of love to conquer all.

I don’t know about you, but on this singles journey, positive examples of love uplift and encourage me to keep waiting and trusting God for that special someone for me.

With all the unhappy love stories turning into breakup stories in 2011, child, I was hungry for an endearing, triumphant tale of love. I needed something to balance the negativity like: Kim Kardashian staying married for only 72 days; Eddie Long’s wife Vanessa filing for divorce; Herman Cain’s sexual harassment and adultery allegations; Deion and Pilar Sanders’ divorce drama; and my conversation at Denny's with my girls from church.

I didn’t want to hear anymore mess!

Reflections on being Solo, Not So Low: Why I had to Take a Social Networking Break

I don’t have a Facebook page or Twitter account as of two and a half years ago. I know I probably sound like a Neanderthal right now, because pretty much everybody I know does some form of social networking. All my friends and family endlessly grill me about why I’m not online anymore.

But I wasn’t always an Internet hermit. I actually used to spend a lot of time social networking. I was consistently posting up new pictures of myself, family, and friends. Ms. Ashley Peterson stayed liking somebody else’s status, adding my two cents to conversations, or re-tweeting something I thought was cool or interesting.  I was quite the social butterfly.

*Stares into space nostalgically remembering my much hipper, cooler days*

I didn’t even mind letting people use my Facebook wall as a billboard to promote their event or website (as long as it wasn’t anything inappropriate).  I loved everything about my online connections.

So I know you’re probably wondering what led me to delete my accounts so suddenly.
