Json Tackles Identity On His New Album, NO FILTER, Available on iTunes Today

EEW MAGAZINE CHRISTIAN RAP FIX

The wait is over.

Lamp Mode President and STELLAR® award-nominated Christian rapper Jason “Json” Watson’s new album No Filter is available in stores and online today. Download it on iTunes.

Being called his “best work to date,” the sizzling 18-track studio LP features topnotch production from GRAMMY® Award-winning producers J.R. and G-Roc, as well as Mashell Leroy and D-Flow.

It also includes features from Lamp Mode label mates S.O. and Tony from Hazakim, as well as Black Knight, Serge, Keno Camp, J Carter and more.

“I’m so excited to be able to finally share No Filter with everybody. It has taken much diligence, sacrifice and prayer,” said Watson. “I just pray it’s a blessing, glorifies God and encourages somebody’s heart.”

No Filter is the prolific lyricist’s sixth album and first release since he assumed the role of presidency in 2014 at Lamp Mode, which is home to shai linne, Stephen the Levite, Hazakim, Timothy Brindle, S.O. and God's Servant.

Watson says No Filter—a term popularized by the use of social media tools to improve the overall appearance of photos—touches on identity issues, but does not exhaustively “unpack” the concept.

According to him, there are three angles from which the important topic is approached on No Filter.

Firstly, explained Watson during an interview on Wade-O Radio, “I talk about my personal wrestle and I challenge others who may have their personal wrestle as well.”

Secondly, he said, “I give snapshots of my life, all to say that what we go through and what we experience, shapes and helps to make [us] who we are.”

Thirdly, Watson explained, ““The idea is to be able to make statements about us as Believers and who we are as people.”

No Filter solidifies Watson’s views on identity in the context of how experience and culture have personally shaped him. Ultimately, the body of work gives listeners a peek through the lens of his character-defining relationship with Jesus Christ and how it has re-molded him into the man he is today.
