Have you heard Dee-1 yet?
If not, you totally should give him a listen. The 29-year-old RCA Inspiration Christian rapper, real name David Augustine Jr., just dropped his EP, 3's Up.
Our favorite track is, by far, “I’m Not Perfect.”
In an interview with Christian Post, the New Orleans native and former middle school teacher made it clear that he is intent on pleasing God.
"I'm at my best whenever I'm fully focused on fulfilling my God-given purpose. If God told me to do this then it doesn't matter what the rest of the world says, I'm going to do it," he said in his interview.
There are some things, however, Dee-1 won’t do—like cave into industry pressures to compromise his faith convictions.
"There's a lot of stuff in the media and just the entertainment business that we are presented with nowadays. I had to live enough to realize that only a few things really matter in life.” he said.
“For me, wanting to be real, wanting to be righteous and wanting to be relevant came up in my professional life, in my educational endeavors as a student, but then also when I was a teacher, in my personal life, in my family life. So I was like wow this is a universal principal."
Dee-1's 3's Up dropped Feb. 17 and is now available through digital retailers.
