Tia’s Tips: Get Fit In Your Home

By EEW Magazine Health & Fitness Editors

EEW Magazine health and fitness editors love to share healthy tips with the thousands of everyday women who frequent our online publication seeking the best advice.

Our favorite motivational health scripture is 3 John 1:2 ESV: “Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.”

Did you know that one of our favorite Christian mommy health enthusiasts is Tia Mowry-Hardrict?

Why?

She’s a vegan who loves dishing on all her best secrets: her signature super nutritious green juice; how she got her rocking post-baby body back; and all the ways she lives the fab and fit lifestyle daily.

What’s not to love about that?

Recently, on the awesome blog she shares with twin sister Tamera Mowry-Housley, Tia, who just renewed her wedding vows, dished on which home workouts every woman can do in her free time.

We loved her choices so much our editors thought it would be great to highlight a few of them here in our bi-weekly health and fitness column.

Before revealing her picks, Tia asked, “How many times have you made a plan to work out only for your whole day to derail with extra work, a last minute errand, or kid emergency?”

Oh my! We can’t count how many. How about you?

She said, “The next thing you know it’s time for bed and you never made it to the gym.”

Truer words have not been spoken. So many health-conscious EEW ladies that desperately want to be disciplined can’t seem to find the time for sweating it out, toning that body, and burning off extra calories.

If you fall into the not-enough-time-for-working out category, we feel your pain! Furthermore, if you know there is absolutely no way you’re buying a gym membership that will collect dust, you don’t have to.

Here are some of Tia’s great suggestions:

She suggests getting your favorite playlist and shaking that body in the comfort of your own home. You should definitely try this. It works—something another fab Christian mom, First Lady Michelle Obama, endorses too. Remember her hilarious “The Evolution of Mom Dancing" skit on NBC’s “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,” that aired in February? She showed some moves anyone can do. So get grooving!

And one, two, three…that’s right! There’s nothing like having a chipper fitness trainer you can flick on and off or even rewind if you miss a move. Workout DVDs are everywhere. They are (mostly) affordable, fun, and can be used at your convenience. Tia suggests Pilates, or even P90X and Insanity (Whew!). Whatever you choose do something you really enjoy. You might even like Donna Richardson-Joyner’s Sweating In the Spirit workout.

Oh yeah! Tia says “invest in a game that will help you get your sweat on!” It won’t even feel like work when you’re having such a good time. One of our favorite selections is WiiFit that shows you how to exercise, balance and move more effectively. Like, how can you go wrong with the perfect blend of fitness and fun?

EEW editors added this one. Though you’ll have to leave home for about 20 minutes to do it, we highly recommend going for a brisk power walk around your neighborhood. You can choose the time of day and the days of the week (3-5 is great!). Just get out there and work up a sweat. And once you’re feeling ready and strong, you can switch up the route, even break out into a jog, or how about adding ankle and arm weights for a more intense burn? Go on. The weather’s perfect for it right now.

As you can see, there are so many ways to get fit and have a great time doing it. All it takes is a willingness to start and the discipline to be consistent. You can do it!

Tell EEW, what sort of exercises do you like to fit into your busy schedule? How do you find the time to work out on a regular basis? Please share.
