You may have read Christian daily devotionals before, but never one like Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence by missionary Sarah Young. When you read the life-giving words on the pages and meditate on the beautifully written collection of messages penned from Jesus’ point of view, it feels exactly as if the Savior Himself is speaking to you, calling out to you, and beckoning you to come into His presence—because He is.

It’s no wonder Jesus Calling is a consistent staple on Christian bestseller lists. So many women, just like you, say, “Each devotional seems to be written especially for me.”

How can it be that a single book ministers so specifically to the needs of women from all walks of life, across the globe? This is a true testament to the power of the Spirit-filled content that provides comfort, encouragement, hope, and reassurance of God’s rich presence with you every single day.

During life’s hardships, whether in the area of: relationships, finances, health, emotions, or just the seemingly overwhelming demands of our daily existence, having a book like Jesus Calling to help you spend time in communication with God, is priceless.

I first discovered Jesus Calling in 2011.

At the time, I was recovering from what should have been a routine surgery to repair a broken wrist. But when postsurgical complications sent me into cardiac arrest, nearly claiming my life, it took months to recover fully.

Once I was strong enough to begin sitting up and functioning (For a while I could do nothing at all as a result of being terribly ill from medications.), my Jesus Calling devotional gave me an overwhelming sense of comfort. It ministered to my needs deeply and gave me strength at my weakest points.

Ironically, I had never really been the “devotional type,” but I had also never in my life experienced anything quite like Jesus Calling before. The first time a spot-on inspirational word from the small book full of biblical wisdom dug down into the recesses of my heart, I was amazed at its pointedness.

Repeatedly, Sarah Young’s God-inspired work captivated me, which is why it became one of my treasured possessions that always sat right on the cherry wood nightstand next to my bed. I didn’t miss a single day of reading.

But there was a greater purpose for Jesus Calling coming into my life. When my mother Annie was diagnosed with breast cancer and became very sick from chemotherapy and life-threatening infections, I wanted so desperately to minister to her. One day, I walked into her hospital room and she was crying. She was burning up with fever, but her tears had nothing to do with her physical condition.

Mom wanted to sense the presence of the Lord near her. She poured out her heart and told me how she needed assurance of the Father’s closeness. Silently I prayed, holding back tears of my own. I felt so helpless, but I knew God was able to touch my mother and reveal Himself to her through her season of sickness.

As you can easily imagine, I wanted my mother, who was physically, mentally, and spiritually depleted during her chemo treatments, to be uplifted again.

When I went home that night, God told me just what to do.

The next day, I took a copy of Jesus Calling to the hospital and handed it to my mother. “This will help you so much,” I told her. “When you feel up to it, read this.”

I asked God to let the anointed and beautiful words of Jesus Calling penetrate my mom Annie’s consciousness and seep into her spirit, just the way it happened with me. Sure enough, when I spoke to her the next day, she was ecstatic, enthusiastic, and so appreciative.

God had heard my cry and answered my petition. The devotional had just the impact on my mom I prayed it would. It drew her closer to God and gave her the assurance she craved of Jesus’ nearness at one of the lowest points in her life.

We are now both strong and well, and will forever thank God for Jesus Calling.

Now I want to give the same gift I gave to my mother, to you. I know Jesus Calling by Sarah Young will be a blessing and a wonderful addition to your life. Right now, you can download a 15-day sample of the devotional and experience it for yourself. I encourage you to do so.

You might be wondering, what is it about Jesus Calling —a devotional filled with uniquely inspired treasures from heaven for every day of the year—that makes it stand out from countless others? Why is it so effective?

I believe the way the book was birthed makes all the difference.

After many years of writing in her prayer journal, missionary Sarah Young, the author, decided to listen to God with pen in hand, writing down whatever she believed He was saying to her.  It was awkward at first, she admits, but gradually her journaling changed from monologue to dialogue.  She knew her writings were not inspired as Scripture is, but journaling helped her grow closer to God.  Others were blessed as she shared her writings, until people all over the world were using her messages.

People like me and my mom, and prayerfully, after today, people like you too!
