Podcast: God wants better for you

In today’s inspiration, Dianna Hobbs says, what you prefer to happen isn’t always best for you. Sometimes, the thing that upsets, annoys, disappoints, or frustrates you the most, is the very thing God is using to mature you, prepare you, and position you to receive greater and better.

Nothing can stop you because the all-powerful One dwells within you. No matter how intimidating the opposition, how challenging the situation, or how big the obstacle, our God is greater.

Harvard rightfully rescinds Kyle Kashuv’s admission to Harvard over past ‘egregious’ racist comments

A white teen that called African-American athletes “jock n*ggers” and wrote “kill all the f*cking Jews” has unsuccessfully attempted to defend himself after Harvard chose to rescind his admission over gross displays of bigotry.

18-year-old Kyle Kashuv, who made the racist remarks when he was 16 years old, is arguing that who he was back then is not the same person he identifies himself as today.

Inspiration: Keep trusting God's timing

Life’s journeys can be long and tiresome sometimes, can’t they? You and I don’t always arrive at the place we want to be right away. We like quick results. Instant turnarounds are incredible! On occasion we experience them.

But there are also seasons when change and deliverance happen incrementally, and gradually. But no matter what, keep trusting God's timing.

This is not the way: Tyler Perry shoots down actress who purchased Billboards to get his attention

African-America actress, Racquel Bailey, who put up a billboard in Atlanta to get entertainment mogul Tyler Perry’s attention back in 2012, is at it again. Finally, in 2019, she got a direct response—but it likely isn’t the one she was hoping to receive.

“This is not the way to get my attention if you’re looking for a role in one of my shows,” said the 49-year-old actor, playwright, and comedian in an Instagram caption next to a picture of her giant-sized ad, which reads: “Attention Mr. Perry—Raquel Bailey is your next leading lady.”

Feeling embarrassed by your struggle? Here are 7 scriptures to lift up your head

Do you feel ashamed of your scars and embarrassed by your struggles? Have the things you’re going through left you red-faced, wanting to hide? Don’t you know every single believer has felt that way at one time or another?

Be aware that Satan loves to use shame as a tool of discouragement to make you forget God loves you unconditionally and has a purpose for you— despite the way things seem. If you need a little reminder, here are 7 scriptures (with some extra encouragement thrown in for good measure) to lift up your bowed-down head.

Where was this energy for Obama, though? A closer look at Franklin Graham’s Day of Prayer for Trump

Back in 2011, African-American Christian luminary Bishop T.D. Jakes took prominent white evangelical leader Franklin Graham to task for calling into question former President Barack Obama’s Christian faith—a misstep for which the conservative figure later apologized.

However, since Donald Trump became president, despite the Commander-In-Chief’s bad behavior, Graham has been highly protective of him, recently leading the charge to set aside a day of prayer for the Republican leader—a move that has left some asking, where was with energy for Obama, though?

Christian women offended by Lifetime’s all-black film, ‘Pride and Prejudice: Atlanta’

Uh-oh. Lifetime’s new all-black movie, Pride and Prejudice: Atlanta, written by Tracy McMillan, has left some readers of EEW Magazine, the nation’s leading publication for women of faith and color, irate. Why? What is all the fuss about?

Well, according to the film’s harshest critics, it makes black women look desperate for a husband and shows the black church in a bad light—as if it were only a place where lonely women go to snag an eligible bachelor, instead of a destination to worship God, learn His word, and be a positive force for change in the community.

Must-See: Ava Duvernay’s ‘When They See Us’ is a difficult but necessary watch

Academy Award nominee Ava Duvernay’s four-part Netflix series, “When They See Us” is a horrifying and heartbreaking tale of five innocent black and Latino teenagers, known as the “Central Park Five,” being found guilty of rape and jailed—though they never committed the crime.

While we know these victims of gross injustice were later exonerated, that doesn’t make their true stories any easier to watch. Yet, EEW Magazine recommends watching.
