Is scary-skinny Bishop Eddie Long dying? The pastor issues a statement

Eddie Long is that you? Frail-looking pastor is battling a health challenge

Article By Rebecca Johnson

When Eddie Long recently attributed his weight loss to a new diet, folks were skeptical. Now more light is being shed on the pastor’s health.

Since New Birth Missionary Baptist Church’s senior pastor Eddie L. Long uploaded a video online looking scary skinny recently, the rumor mill has been turning.

Is he dying of some sort of illness? As speculations swirl, with some claiming he has cancer or HIV, the controversial preacher has issued a statement.

Long, 63, admits he is recovering from a “health challenge” but failed to release any specifics about what it is.

The Lithonia pastor’s original video recording, which started all the chatter, showed him in the gym lifting weights, sporting a rail thing physique—something he attributed to a raw vegan diet at the time.

But something is clearly amiss and that rapid weight loss isn’t just because, as Long said, he gave up the “slave menu” of fried chicken and other unhealthy foods.

Whatever the ailment, however, the man who shocked the nation by settling out of court after being accused of sexually abusing four young men in 2010, is maintaining that

Plenty of folks are side-eyeing Long’s raw veganism claims and saying the eating model is merely a cover-up to conceal deeper issues.

But Long says his affliction “is unrelated to the eating for life diet consisting of mostly raw vegetables that I am continuing, as part of a holistic approach to good health.”

He said he appreciates the prayers and support for him, his loved ones and church family.

Members of the leader’s congregation have expressed concerns according to Long.

“People are asking, ‘Bishop, what happened to all of you?’” he said in the video, posted to his public Facebook page. “Well, all of me has melted away.”

He continued, “I’m on the medicine that God gave you to feed your immune system to build you up. You know what, if you really want to move through this world and have influence you gotta be spiritual and you have to walk by His commandments and you have to be healthy.”

Now that Long is (sort of) letting the cat out of the bag that he is ill, some of his harshest critics say the sickness is a manifestation of God’s judgement for the sins he failed to confess and repent of.

Back in May, while promoting a book during an appearance on the Steve Harvey Show, the preacher who admitted to being suicidal during the height of the scandal, still refused to answer any questions pertaining to the allegations of sexual abuse that have dogged him and his ministry.

Anthony Flagg, Spencer LeGrande, Jamal Parris and Maurice Robinson said Long coerced them into performing sexual acts by wielding his influence and showering them with gifts.

Long maintained that he could not go into any details about the allegations because of the terms of the settlement that was reached in 2011.

“At this time my family and I are requesting that you respect our privacy,” he said.
