Embarrassing the Lord: Pastor suggests national anthem protestors be shot

GETTYThere is no evidence that Jesus face-palms, but if He did, an Alabama pastor, who is out here in these streets embarrassing the Lord, would definitely be one of the causes of such a gesture.

The white minister, who doubles as a high school football announcer, says folks who fail to stand for the national anthem should be shot.

Really, sir?

According to Al.com, Pastor Allen Joyner of the Sweet Home Baptist Church made this bold and asinine statement prior to a game at McKenzie High School, suggesting that protesters should line up and be executed by members of America’s military.

“If you don’t want to stand for the national anthem, you can line up over there by the fence and let our military personnel take a few shots at you since they’re taking shots for you,” he said, with the crowd cheering him on.

The Facebook post containing about this shameful moment has since been removed.

Joyner’s comments come during a time when NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick has sparked national discussion after stating he will not stand for the national anthem due to the racially unjust treatment of African-Americans in the U.S.

Others have since followed suit.

Although Pastor Joyner’s both anti-American and anti-Christian commentary has some support, Butler County Schools Superintendent Amy Bryan immediately denounced what he said.

“Patriotism should be a part of school events but threats of shooting people who aren’t patriotic, even in jest, have no place at a school,” said Bryan. “Threats of violence are a violation of school policy and certainly not condoned by the school board.”

Sweet Home Baptist, which initially supported Joyner’s comments on its Facebook page, got rid of the inflammatory post after approximately an hour.

You can’t make this stuff up.
