Gospel: First-time Grammy nominees Jekalyn Carr, Todd Dulaney, and Tim Bowman Jr. react to their nominations

Tim Bowman Jr. nets first Grammy nominatioEEW Magazine Gospel News

Of the thousands of gospel artists that pour out their hearts through song, only a handful are recognized by The Recording Academy.

That’s why first-time Grammy nominees Jekalyn Carr, Todd Dulaney and Tim Bowman Jr. feel so humbled to be selected for the honor.

Upon learning of the news, each of the three musicians responded by giving glory to God and expressing themselves in varying ways on social media.

So, who are they, what were they nominated for and what did they have to say?

Jekalyn Carr

The 19-year-old prophetic powerhouse singer's single, "You’re Bigger” hit #1 on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart on September 14th. The single spent four non-consecutive weeks at #1 and twenty-three consecutive weeks in the Top 2.

Her album The Life Project, also debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart and has remained in the Top 20 position since its debut. In addition, “You’re Bigger” hit #1 on the Billboard’s Digital Songs chart (digital downloads) four non-consecutive weeks. Carr’s song also climbed on Billboard’s Adult R&B Radio Airplay charts peaking at #31 with a #1 “New & Active” bullet.

Todd Dulaney

Born December 20, 1983 in Maywood, IL, Todd Dulaney grew up as a singer and an elite athlete. After graduating from high school in 2001, Dulaney was drafted from Community College in Mt. Carmel, IL, by the New York Mets to pursue a professional baseball career. While refining his athletic skills, Dulaney realized that there was a higher calling upon his life. He accepted an invitation to travel and perform background vocals for gospel artist and Grammy winner Smokie Norful.

He bouded to  No. 1 on Billboard's To Gospel Albums chart for the first time with his sophomore album, A Worshipper's Heart. His debut LP Pulling Me Through was released twice, in 2011 and 2013, and peaked at Nos. 43 and 23 on Top Gospel Albums, respectively.

Tim Bowman, Jr.

A Detroit native, with lengthy roots in the music industry---his father is renowned jazz guitarist, Tim Bowman and his aunt is famed gospel singer, Vickie Winans---Tim has become celebrated in his own right for his exceptional vocal ability, universal appeal, and harmonious presence.

Listen, marks Tim’s debut on Lifestyle Music Group, the label owned by legendary music producer, Rodney Jerkins in partnership with Motown Gospel.  The album features the single “I’m Good,” which rose to #1 on the Billboard Top Gospel Airplay chart earlier this year.
