Gospel-jazz vocalist Kim Burrell, who will be honored at this year’s ESSENCE Fest, recently sat down with one of the brand’s associate editors for a candid interview.

Apparently, during the conversation, God showed up.

Gia Peppers, who is crafting Burrell’s feature, posted on Instagram, “I have a new auntie-in-my-head,” adding, “God was there, no lie.”

We’re not surprised.

In addition to being a phenomenal singer, the 42-year-old pastor of Love & Liberty Fellowship Church International in Houston is a powerhouse preacher and encourager.

Burrell also acknowledged the delightful conversation on Instagram, writing that she had “a wonderful time interviewing” with Peppers, admonishing fans to “stay tuned for more info.”

In just weeks, Jessica Reedy, Jonathan McReynold’s and Jazmine Sullivan will lead a star-studded tribute to the three-time STELLAR award winner in New Orleans.

It's about time.

Burrell burst onto the scene in 1995 with her debut solo album Try Me Again. Two decades later, she is receiving well-deserved recognition.
