YouVersion’s Bible App Surpasses 200 Million Installs + World’s ‘Most Popular’ Verses Revealed

As more people use technology devices to enrich their faith, the explosive growth of a 7-year-old Bible app proves the sustainable power and popularity of Scripture.

Mainstream media loves Bible-bashing, but Americans, as well as cultures around the world, are more in love with God’s word than ever.

While all Scripture is God-breathed and divinely inspired, there are specific verses that particularly resonate with readers. See what the most popular verses of 2015 are.

According to a Christianity Today report, YouVersion’s Bible App is opened 112 times every 5 seconds and has surpassed 200 million installs since its 2008 launch.

Bobby Gruenewald, innovation pastor at Life.Church, who’s touting the latest milestone of the super popular app that offers the Bible in more than 1,200 versions and 900 languages, said, “What God is doing through YouVersion is incredible—changing mobile devices into Bibles that people carry with them everywhere they go.”

He continued, “As we see the magnitude of 200 million installs, what we’re really celebrating is what that number represents: countless moments of individuals transformed by their time in the Bible.”

Annually, YouVersion reveals the most popular Bible verses of the year based on user activity in the 10 countries where it has been installed the most.

Here they are.

United States and Brazil: Romans 12:2 NIV

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will.”

Mexico, United Kingdom, and South Korea: Isaiah 41:10 NIV

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

(Mexicans used the New American Standard Bible, Brits used the King James Version, and Koreans used the NIV)

Nigeria, South Africa, and the Philippines: Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

“'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'"

(Nigerians used the New Living Translation (NLT), South Africans used the Good News Translation, and Filipinos used the NIV)

Canada: Ephesians 1:23 NLT

"And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself."

China: 1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT

"The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure."

Christianity Today also says, one of the app's most-used features is its Bible reading plans. YouVersion reports that 42 million plans were completed in 2015, up from 22 million in 2014.
