Tyler Perry Will Host Live Easter Event ‘The Passion’ on Fox

GETTYArticle By Dana Walsh // EEW Magazine Contributor

In 2016, on Palm Sunday, a Christian media mogul is teaming up with FOX to celebrate the life of Jesus Christ

Share Fox is going after a Christian audience for the upcoming Easter season.
The network will air “The Passion,” a live musical event, on Palm Sunday, with Tyler Perry as host and narrator of the two-hour special depicting the final hours of Jesus Christ’s life on earth.

Viewers will see Jesus at the Last Supper, being betrayed by Judas, on trial before Pontius Pilate, His conviction, crucifixion and finally, the resurrection.

Though traditionally themed elements will be included, Fox’s version will add a twist to the classic story.

The setting of “The Passion” is modern-day New Orleans, Perry’s actual hometown. According to Variety, the action will take place live at some of the Crescent City’s most iconic locations. A 20-foot illuminated cross will be carried by a procession of hundreds of people from Champion Square outside the Superdome to the live stage at Woldenburg Park.

Music will be arranged by producer Adam anders (“Glee,” “Rock of Ages”). The cast has not yet be announced.

“‘The Passion’ is both wonderfully entertaining and genuinely inspirational,” said David Madden, president of entertainment at Fox Broadcasting Company. “We are so thrilled to have the multi-talented Tyler Perry join us for this epic music production. He is the perfect host to lead the cast – and viewers – through the streets of New Orleans in this contemporary re-telling of a timeless story.”

“The Passion” will air at 8 p.m. March 20 on Fox.
