Feeling a little low? Read these 7 discouragement-fighting scriptures to encourage you

GETTYArticle By Sandra Clarke // EEW MAGAZINE FAITH

Every woman of purpose and power needs go-to scriptures in her arsenal to fuel faith and hope.

Share From the greatest biblical heroes, to the world’s most prominent leaders, everyone gets a little down and discouraged sometimes.

To help you get your confidence and hope for a brighter future back, there is no better source than the word of God.

So, before you grab your favorite comfort food (Häagen-Dazs, chocolate, or something super greasy anyone?), curl up in your pajamas with a remote control, or just sink into a slump, hold up.

Slowly back away from the icecream, candy and chips. Put down the flannels, say no to Lifetime and go get your Bible.

It isn’t called the “sword of the spirit” for nothing.

The word of God is a weapon you can use to fight discouragement and anything else that comes to hold you down in your life.

Here are EEW Magazine’s 7 favorite discouragement-fighting scriptures.

1.) Deuteronomy 31:8The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Sometimes, at your lowest point, you feel alone. But this passage reminds you that, wherever you go, whether the highest mountain or deepest valley, the Lord goes before you.

2.) Psalm 9:9 "The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble."

This scripture reassures you that, during the intense battles of life, God is a refuge, a secure place, a retreat from your troubles. He will protect you and uphold you through whatever you’re facing.

3.) John 16:33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Jesus never promised that every day would be easy. You and I will have trouble. But we have a clear picture of our conquering Savior, who has already overcome whatever tries to overcome and overwhelm us.

4.) Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Some of the best prayers are written right in the word of God. This one is penned by Paul, which perfectly requests joy and peace, as well as an overflow of hope in your life! Pray it and receive it.

5.) Psalm 34:17 “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.

Ever cry out to God and feel like you’re not being heard? Well, this verse reminds you that you are. The Lord is attentive to your cry and He will deliver you. Have faith.

6.) Romans 8:18I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”

Your suffering isn’t for nothing. It’s producing a greater glory in your life—not just in this life, but also, the hereafter. Be encouraged in knowing that this isn’t where it ends. Something better is on the way.

7.) 2 Corinthians 4:17 "For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all."

If Romans 8:18 were not enough, here is another confirmation that glory is coming out of your trouble. The passage also reminds you that troubles are “momentary,” but glory is “eternal.” This, too, will pass after while.

Remember, feelings of discouragement will come and go. But the word of God stands forever.

Choose faith over feelings and know that God has you in the palm of His hand.

Be encouraged!
