As part of Bishop T.D. Jakes “Road To Destiny” web series, his wife, First Lady Serita Jakes discusses the struggles and triumphs along her personal path to achieving her own destiny

Serita Jakes, first lady of The Potter’s House in Dallas, TX, is giving the public a deeper look into who she really is.

As part of the “Road to Destiny” web series, the wife of mega pastor Bishop T.D. Jakes opens up about personal insecurities, what she least likes about herself and why she’s just now starting a new business at age 60.

“I think the greatest thing I’ve overcome on my path to destiny are insecurities and every now and again, they still pop up like weeds in a beautiful garden,” she said in Episode 10 of the multi-part online exclusive released in support of Bishop Jakes’ latest book Destiny: Step into Your Purpose.

In the video, Bishop Jakes, though unseen, can be heard asking questions, prompting Mrs. Jakes’ transparent answers.

“If I don’t immediately attend to my garden those insecurities will take over and I’ll find myself losing my way,” she continued, adding, “I have to learn to do me.”

According to the mother of five, also a self-described introvert—something she likes least about herself—doing her has a lot to do with honoring her need for quiet and calm.

“I’m an introvert living in an extrovert world. So extroverts are fueled by activity and noise, and I’m an introvert. I’m fueled by peace and calmness, and it’s very hard for me to find calmness,” Mrs. Jakes explained.

“I can get all of the noise in the land, but sometimes it’s hard for me to still my soul and just rest.”

Finding that place of repose may get even harder since she has leapt over into entrepreneurship.

“It’s so amazing that at the age of 60, I have finally, finally released the gift that was on the inside of me,” said Mrs. Jakes about unveiling her new aromatherapy candle, which is a part of her “Serita Jakes Home Collection.”

“At 60, guys, I’m starting my own business,” she emphasized in the video. “Why not 40? I wasn’t ready.”

Watch Mrs. Jakes open up in the video.
