God Sounds Like WHAT? Sherri Shepherd Talks Hearing God’s Voice

Article by Catherine Hodges:: EEW Magazine News Reporter

Jesus said in John 10:27, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” But what, exactly, does God’s voice sound like?

If you ask Sherri Shepherd, Christian co-host of ABC’s The View, she will tell you, the Lord has a deep, sultry, strong tone, and sounds just like…

“I hear one voice. I hear God and God sounds like Barry White in my head when He’s talking to me. That’s what I hear,” she said during a Wednesday, September 18 episode.

Oh, Sherri.

The conversation came up as Shepherd, along with Jenny McCarthy, Whoopi Goldberg, Barbara Walters, and guest co-host Ana Ortiz (Lifetime’s ‘Devious Maids’), discussed the “DC shooter,” Aaron Alexis.

Before the 34-year-old civilian contractor and military veteran murdered 12 people at a Washington Navy Yard and was killed in a gun battle with law enforcement responding to the September 16 morning attack, he had complained about hearing voices in his head.

In fact, it is on record that Alexis had once called the police explaining that he had changed hotels to avoid the noise he heard through the floor and ceiling. The incident was reported to the navy.

Sadly, the serious signs of mental illness were missed.

So, is everyone crazy that hears voices?

Absolutely not.

Goldberg pointed out that The American Psychiatric Association says hearing voices is much more common than people might think and the voices don’t always tell them to do bad things—something Goldberg said she can relate to, since she hears fictitious characters’ voices.

“It’s a person saying I’m coming into being and they give me whole conversations,” the performer and comedian explained of how she brings to life the interesting and diverse characters for her shows.

But for Believers like Shepherd, divine instructions heard audibly can be traced back to the Bible and should not be viewed as strange whatsoever.

“To hear God, one can only say, ‘Isn’t that great that you do,’” said Walters to Shepherd.

Indeed.

Now, as far as Him sounding like Barry White, well, the Lord works... and speaks in mysterious ways.

She's a comedian at the end of the day. I can't take everything she says seriously.

I think what's more important is not so much as how the voice SOUNDS but WHAT the voice is SAYING. If the content does not match or correspond to God's Word (biblical principles) then DON'T LISTEN TO IT!
