Bishop T.D. Jakes Disses ‘Preachers Of L.A.’—Calls Reality Show ‘Junk’

Article By Rebecca Johnson:: EEW Magazine Entertainment News

The premiere of Oxygen’s controversial docu-series, Preachers Of L.A., may have pulled in a record 1.1 million viewers, but one of the most influential Christian pastors in America, Bishop T.D. Jakes, holds a very low opinion of it.

On Sunday morning, October 13 at the Potter’s House in Dallas, TX, Jakes dissed the reality show, calling it “junk” and distancing himself from the stars’ blinged-out images and flamboyance.

“Now, I know you been watching that junk on TV,” Jakes said, criticizing Preachers Of L.A. amid a plea for congregants and online viewers to sow a financial seed into his local ministry.

“I want to tell you right now, not one dime of what you’re sowing right now will buy my suit. I want you to know my car is paid for. I want you to know I got my house on my own. I want you to know I’m not bling-blinging. I am not shake and bake. I had money when I came to Dallas and I plan to have some when I leave,” Jakes stated emphatically.

“You did not buy what I got,” he continued. “I had it when I came here. You know I had it when I came here. The devil is a lie! I have sold enough books and produced enough movies. I don’t need your offering to pay for this little slimy suit. So I rebuke that spirit in the name of Jesus Christ.”

That spirit Jakes referred to is one of criticism, cynicism and skepticism of mega pastors’ motives following the premiere of Preachers of L.A. that documents the lives of 6 larger-than-life personalities: Bishop Noel Jones, Deitrick Haddon, Bishop Clarence McClendon, Pastor Wayne Chaney, Bishop Ron Gibson, and Pastor Jay Haizlip.

Bishop Clarence McClendon pictured with his wife Priscilla and the couple’s son inside the McClendon’s home, worth more than $7 million-- the most expensive of all the pastors' homes featured on Preachers Of L.A. (Credit: Tim Brown/Oxygen)

The rich Christian pastors are not in any way shy about indulging their cravings for the finer things in life, gladly showing off their fancy cars, sprawling houses and opulent lifestyles that rival rappers and mainstream celebrities.

No doubt, the Preachers of L.A. have built empires for themselves, but Jakes said, “We are going to build the Kingdom of God like we have always built the Kingdom of God."

Then, Jakes delivered the one-liner that sent the crowd into a frenzy. He said, "I’m not from L.A. I’m from Dallas!”

That verbal jab had Potter’s House attendees cheering loudly, slapping each other high-five and expressing approval of their leader’s strong commentary.

Continuing to stick up for his own credibility, he added, “The people who have been here a while can go through my track record and prove when I said something, I did it. When we went after something, we bought it. When we wanted the land, we paid for it. When we wanted the school, we built it. When we went after this church we burned the mortgage on this church.”

He also interjected, “You don’t do that kind of business being shake and bake and slimy and—shut up,” he abruptly interrupted and censored his own speech.

“Woo! Pull the plug,” Jakes talked to himself openly, then shifted gears a bit, focusing on the accomplishments of the ministry, rather than the shortcomings of the ministers on TV.

“So let the work I’ve done speak for me. You are sowing into good ground. And the 300 families that are employed in this ministry eat from this ministry, work in this ministry, and help us to produce the excellence that we do," he explained. "The natives all over Kenya drink water because of this ministry. And the hospital in Nairobi survives because of this ministry.”

The leader was set on making it clear that his ministry was focused on missions, not mansions; MegaCare (his humanitarian organization), not mega cars.

“I do not need you to buy my car. I got this,” he said, pausing for an extended period.

Before moving on, Jakes told the congregation, “If you appreciate my straightforwardness, give God some praise."

Then, moments later, he expressed indignantly, “I’m a grown man, dog.”

Seriously, I lost respect for Jakes. I am not interested in the LA preachers but I'm Kenyan - from Nairobi - don't even know what water his talking about and sounds to me like he has this ignorant idea that there's this ONE hospital in Kenya that he helps. Wake up preacher man and apologize before we shame you . Kenyans don't need your money - we got this! Seriously, dawg…

This is Nairobi -
Y'all better stop tripping every time you want to look important, talkin 'bout some nebulous projects y'all doing in Africa. Eish!

Not all who call on the name of Jesus will see the Kingdom of God. Jakes... Seriously, the natives of Kenya!? Water in Nairobi!?? I live in that area and I don't know of anything you have done for any diminished community, let alone the whole city or country!! Pride! Pride! Pride!!! Isn't that what lead lucifer to become the devil?? Christ could have controlled kingdoms, owed anything, led armies, but he chose not to. Yet his 'followers' own so many earthly things and show it off!!

Bishop just learned about the continent of Africa about 15 years ago. He sent a white man to go to Kenya and other places to help out supposedly. They were supposed to have spent $15,000 per well in the bush to supply water for the people there. I travel to a continent all the time. I visit many of the countries, and I've never heard about digging a well costing $15,000. A hospital in the country side named a small wing after T.D. Jakes or his Mother. I think the hospital is named Melcazadict but im not 100% certain. This is a very small church in the country side of Kenya. Bishop is very good at stretching the truth. At one time, he would speak the truth, but he has become Hollywood and his spirit has change. He is only a shell of what he used to be. His sermons are not as anointed as he once was. Personally, I feel that God has fired him like Samuel in the bible, and he is still allowing him to work as only God can do. Bishop has raised money from people at the Church and others through his T.D. Jakes Ministries, which control the Potter House Inc. He receives all the money from the Church. He pays taxes on the money and pays his people. Many people were laid off when he had his daughter's wedding. No members were allowed to attend the wedding, but there was a table in the vestibule for people to leave a gift. I attended the Church for the first time in five months on Sunday. I have been a member since 1997. I've seen everything that has occurred. He has used the funds to pay off the Church, and he usually does what he says he will do with the money. However, there have been times when he said the Church would do things a certain way, and it didn't happen that way nor was the Church informed about the change. He really doesn't have to because he owns the Church. The Deacon and Elders are figure heads. Jakes and his inner-circle control the Church. Bishop is very secretive; he doesn't like the fact that common people will learn more about what happen behind the scenes of the Mega Churches. The money that is collected on Sunday is unregulated. Most people are encouraged to give in cash, which is untraceable. If someone takes 30 to 40 thousand off the top per month after an offering who will know if it wasn't accounted for to begin with. I have said it before and Ill say it again, it's been praying time. God is a jealous God, and he will not allow Jakes or others to steal his glory as they have done for so long. Noel Jones is more open than Bishop. Noel knows Bishop's secrets. He knows Bishop is scary and have lived a very sheltered life. Bishop doesn't know a lot about the world despite what many may believe. He was raised in the Church, and he didn't get a chance to have a life like many other preachers who are real and transparent. He hasn't used drugs, or smoke marijuana. He smoked cigarette that is about it. He has become very wealthy with the support of the Church buying his books, cds, tapes, dvds, movies, etc. He may say he had money when he came to Dallas, but his money was not like it is right now. He has used the Church to get to where he is like most preachers do and then state they did it on their own. The land purchased for the school was purchased by the members of the Church. The land the school sits on was purchased by the members through the pass me another brick campaign. This campaign was supposed to build the current main church on that 430 acres. Instead, Bishop allowed his Brother to sell the land in quarter acre blocks to individuals who wanted homes and Bishop, and his Brother gets paid every time a home is built. No members receive a dime even though we paid for the land. That is about the only thing I can think of that he hasn't done with the money that was given by the members of the church as a whole.

If TD Jakes got his money as he said from selling books and producing movies...then why can't these preachers get their money from a reality show-

LOL...Jakes is just thinking about his soon to be canceled talk show. He's trying to garner viewers pretending NOT to be in the EXACT same boat as the pimp preachers of LA! #aJoke

TD Jakes is JUST as corrupt as the others. The irony of his self sufficient attitude in the pulpit had nothing to do with the teachings of Jesus Christ. He is a big Python himself and I hope you people can see this. Love your brother is what Jesus said. Thank you.

After producing that ungodly movie Jumping the Broom where the first scene is a girl being dumped after just having sex with a guy who phones another girl and tells her he loves her then only the main character prays to Go d for a husband, after Jakes produced that junk, he has no business criticizing anyone and should have a serious seat!

Jakes is being a hypocrite and is seething in jealousy. He's jealous that he doesn't look like them. This the preacher who has partnered with one of the most famous shacked up fornicators of our time for worldly vain glory. She has stated she doesn't believe Jesus is the only way and promotes her new age beliefs every week on her Super Soul Sunday programming. Preachers of LA are a mess...and so is Jakes.

I think TD Jakes should have been on that tv show. Sounds like a preacher scorned to me. Jakes has everything these so-called preachers has, and more! He is angry because they came forward and exposed it! He wants to remain under the cover and keep all the money for himself, while the poor sheep under his so-called leadership continue to have blinded eyes and continue to make him and his family, rich! He lied in this article. In his own words he said he had very few members when he came to Dallas and began to pastor the Potters House. Where did the money come from, if it did not come from his members? No job could pay him to live in the style he lives in, even now! If he was not a so-called preacher, I could not imagine what career he could even work at to support himself and a family. God have mercy on us all! Poor little sheep.

Therefore there is no longer condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Don't worry about others actions, focus on your reaction towards The Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Make sure you pray for your leaders. God accepted Jesus as the saviour, Lamb, that was slain for our sin. Let no man tell you lies, because you belong to the Truth, the way and the Life= Jesus Christ.
Father God thank you for blessing each one that accepted Jesus as their savior , Lord and King. Nothing is hidden from You Father God. Work in your children's hearts right now Father and we glorify your Holy NAME my God.
Jesus my Lord and King, I thank you that all darkness will be exposed through your light, I ask and pray.
Giver and Taker we have nothing of ourselves, naked we came into the world, and naked we shall return to you where there is no moth and rust. We commit our lives publicly one more time to You creater now and forevermore, hallelujah to the Worthy King Jesus Christ.
You conquered the grave and set us free to inherit Eternal life with You My God.
I thank you for unity in the body of You Powerful Sovereign God.
In Jesus Christ name, Amen.
Love one another as you would love yourself.
