Male Lock-Out Continues, Michael Pugh Axed from BET's Sunday Best

Michael Pugh, the final male contest on BET's Sunday Best was eliminated, leaving Amber Bullock (left) and Andrea Helms (right) to compete for the title

Many viewers were shocked when BET's Sunday Best favorite, Michael Pugh, was sent home, leaving Andrea Helms and Amber Bullock to compete for the title.  The popular gospel music talent search, now in its fourth season, continues the trend of getting rid of male contenders. We love the women, but can our brothers (especially anointed, gifted ones like Michael Pugh) get some love?

  • Season 1's winner (2008): Crystal Aikin
  • Season 2's winner (2009): Y'Anna Crawley
  • Season 3's winner (2010): Leandria Johnson

Plenty of folks, particularly EEW BUZZ readers, thought surely Michael Pugh, the 35-year-old Brooklyn native, would be Season 4's victor.

But nope, he got the ax to the dismay of those who were blessed by his ministry gift. So the male lock-out continues.

While gospel is a heavily male-dominated musical genre in the general marketplace, the brothers are being shut down on the Sunday Best stage.

Oh well.

We'll just have to wait and see which of the remaining two contestants will win the 2011 Ford Explorer and a national recording contract with Matthew Knowles' Music World Gospel.
