As the saying goes, "Desperate times call for desperate measures." This is the philosophy of 26-year-old single mother of three, Destiny Mathis, who is selling her handwritten letter from President Barack Obama to save her family from eviction.

An avid Obama supporter who stomped hard for the president during his 2008 run for office, Mathis reached out to him when times got hard. According to NBC Chicago the Hobart, Ind. resident graduated at the top of her college class in 2005 and worked for six years as a surgical technologist. In January, she lost her job after complications with the birth of her third child, and is presently unemployed.

"My ultimate goal is to go back to school for nursing," she wrote in the letter to the president. "I am so afraid this dreaded economy is going to have my family homeless."

She certainly didn't expect to get a handwritten letter back from the prez on official White House stationery. But when she received it, according to the cash-strapped mom, she didn't let it out of her sight. Now, as she faces imminent eviction, she is hoping to sell the letter for $11,000.

Mathis is selling Obama's note through Gary Zimet, president of Moments in Time, an online company that has sold eight such letters for between $10,000 and $20,000.

Many individuals are trying to dissuade the young mother from selling off the valuable memento.
