POLITICAL BUZZ: President Obama Thinks Anthony Weiner Should Resign

Bad news for Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.). In an exclusive interview with NBC's Ann Curry set to air Tuesday, June 14, the president said if he were Weiner, who has exchanged some inappropriate and sexually explicit images with women online, he would resign from congress.

ANN CURRY: Should Congressman Anthony Weiner resign?

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, obviously what he did was highly inappropriate. I think he's embarrassed himself, he's acknowledged that, he's embarrassed his wife and his family. Ultimately there's going to be a decision for him and his constituents. I can tell you that if it was me, I would resign. Because public service is exactly that, it's a service to the public. And when you get to the point where, because of various personal distractions, you can't serve as effectively as you need to at the time when people are worrying about jobs and their mortgages and paying the bills, then you should probably step back.

This makes EEW Magazine BUZZ editors think of lots of high profile scandals involving both politicians and religious leaders. Many choose to hold onto their positions rather than step down.

What are your thoughts? Should leaders found guilty of compromising their integrity vacate their office once their reputation has become too damaged to serve effectively?

I agree with President Obama. There are some things that are too damaging and people can no longer receive from you. In cases like this, you should just pack it in and step aside. It's the right thing to do in my opinion.

This is a tough one, because if everyone stepped down that had an impropriety, we would have a lot of empty pulpits and political seats. lol
