First Lady Michelle Obama popped up in Beverly Hills, California yesterday. She wasn't stopping by a glamorous movie premiere, live concert, or hitting up Rodeo Drive for a shopping spree on the strip. Her reason for making an appearance in the glamorous city was for something much more serious.

Lady O, dressed in a black dress and cardigan, with red pumps, joined in on a discussion held at the Writers Guild Theatre on behalf of military service members. She is pushing for more positive portrayals of military families in movies and popular entertainment. “I want to ensure that these families feel support on the ground,” the First Lady told the crowd of nearly 500. "This isn’t about politics. This isn’t about red or blue.”

This passionate effort is a part of the Joining Forces initiative started by the First Lady and Jill Biden, who is married to Vice-President Joseph Biden, earlier this year.
