Teen gospel sensation Jekalyn Carr gives encouragement to youth

Article By Angela Wyatt // EEW Magazine Gospel News

Young people across America are drawn to the ministry of a 19-year-old gospel singer and songwriter with good reason.

Jekalyn Carr, who is an example of how God can use someone at a young age, tells other youth, “There is a plan God has for you.”

"The main thing young people love about my ministry is how old I am and how God uses me to release His message [and] the things God has allowed me to accomplish at a very young age," said the “You’re Bigger” singer in an interview with Al.com.

During the discussion, in preparation for the Friday release of Carr’s new album, The Life Project, she shared what it is that she wants this generation to know.

“One of the things I want them to understand is they have the power to control their environment. There may be things around you that you can't control, but you can control yourself. You can stand up and be the light, be the positive one standing in the midst of negativity,” Carr expressed.

By refusing to fit in with the crowd and staying on a divinely-ordained path, the dynamic and gifted vocalist believes “You can be whatever it is you decide to be."

Her life is a testament to that.

Carr began sharing her singing gift at age five, participated in her first recording at seven and released her first national project at 14. Since that time, she has been burning up Billboard charts, with her current single sitting comfortably at No. 4.

With her newest release, which features 12 songs, mostly written by Carr and her father Allen Carr, she hopes to continue building a lasting musical legacy deeply rooted in her love of gospel and walking in obedience to the Lord.

Her mother, Jennifer Carr, also wrote two songs on the new album: "We Will Stand" and "I'm Beautiful."
