Christianity 101: If they don’t hate you, you’re doing it wrong

Photo Credit: Shuttersock/ EEW MagazineChristians are not called to be loved by the world. Rather, we should expect rejection and ridicule for Christ’s sake.

Article By JC Culligan // EEW Magazine Spiritual

Share Homosexuality is a sin. Sex is for marriage only. Evolution is a bunch of monkey business. The obvious truths that no one wants to say. Why? Because so many Christians have been battered and beaten into silence by what we call political correctness.

Honestly, the beatings shouldn’t hurt you. When you wear the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:13-17), such attacks have no effect on you.

But many of our number have traded in their armor in exchange for a friendly relationship with the world. However, if you truly desire to be a soldier for Christ, you have to be thick-skinned.

Here are 7 reasons:

#1 Matthew 10:22 (ESV)- “And you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.” Jesus warned that we would be at odds with the world, so don’t shrink away from your beliefs when you meet opposition. Heaven is a blessing reserved for those who are unashamed of God and His word.

#2 John 15:19 (NIV)- “If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.” Those in the world are lovers of sin, and are therefore incapable of loving those who are dead to sin. The world’s aversion to you is simply a side-effect of righteousness.

#3 Luke 14:27 (NIV)- “And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.” Just as Christ suffered under the pain and weight of carrying His own cross, we must endure whatever misery comes upon us. If we give up, we are not truly His children.

#4 2 Timothy 3:12 (NLT)- “Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.” In verse 14 of the same chapter, Paul writes to Timothy, “But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you.” Our beliefs come straight from the pages of the Bible, which is “breathed out by God”, making it fully reliable. We must not turn away from the truths we have learned when we are persecuted by those who don’t understand.

#5 Romans 8:18 (NKJV)- “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” Our faith in Christ guarantees us a joyous new life, free of sin, spent in the presence of our loving Lord and Savior. When you look to our future hope, all the trials you face here on earth become trivial in comparison.

#6 Isaiah 54:17 (KJV)- “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgement thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.” When Christ covers you, no one who comes against you can destroy you. Their words cannot harm you, because you have the Word on your side. God cannot be defeated, so as a child of the Most High, you will ultimately be victorious.

#7 James 1:12 (NIV)- “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” God does not overlook those who strive to show their love for Him; when you bear up under the weight of the world, you will be rewarded.

Don’t let the world get you down. Jesus said in John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
