Weekly Chart Check: 4 Women In Top 20 On Billboard

Article by Teri Watson:: EEW Magazine Gospel News

The gospel industry is dominated by men—something evidenced by the shortage of female artists charting in the Top 20 on Billboard.

This week, four lovely ladies: Tasha Cobbs, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Erica Campbell and Jessica Reedy are holding it down and representing for the fabulous females.

Cobbs' (No. 3) Grace (EP), has spent more than 100 weeks on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart, making her one of the leading worship voices of our generation, with staples like “Break Every Chain” and “For Your Glory.”

Clark-Cole’s (No. 8)  reality TV stint on Oxygen’s Preacher’s of Detroit has no doubt helped boost sales, with Living It debuting at No. 2, marking the highest chart position of her career.

Campbell (No. 14), also a WE tv reality star, has leveraged the fame of Mary Mary and parlayed that into personal success with Help.

Perhaps, most remarkably, Reedy (No. 18), who branched out on her own and released her latest album Transparent on her newly launched indie label, Purity Records, is in control of her career and making it happen.

During Women’s History Month, it is only right and fitting to give some love to women in the forefront of gospel music.
