30-Year Fire Chief Fired for Biblical Views on Homosexuality Gets Major Support

FOX NEWSArticle By Jesse Nash:: EEW Magazine News

Statistically, more than 75 percent of Americans identify as Christian and nearly 8 in 10 believe the Bible to be the “inspired” or literal word of God.

Those who publicly embrace the view that homosexuality is a sin according to Scripture, are at risk of losing their jobs.

Atlanta's former Fire Chief, Kelvin Cochran, with more than three decades of experience, who served President Obama as U.S. Fire Administrator, was axed last week by Mayor Kasim Reed.

He wrote a 162-page book titled "Who Told You That You Are Naked?"  wherein a few lines say homosexuality is sinful.

But as news of the gross injustice travels to Christians across America, thousands are signing online petitions demanding Cochran be reinstated.

Amidst a groundswell of support, however, Alex Wan, an openly gay member of Atlanta’s City Council is celebrating Cochran’s firing.

“This sends a strong message to employees about how much we value diversity and how we adhere to a non-discriminatory environment,” he said.

Mayor Kasim Reed and openly gay Alex Wan (AP)Mayor Reed first received a copy of the book in January 2014 and said he planned to read it on an upcoming trip, Cochran told Fox News.

A year later, that very book has cost the respected public servant his job.

It is worth noting that, before becoming mayor in 2009, Reed faced heavy criticism from LGBT activists for not supporting gay marriage. According to him, back then, he was "wrestling with his beliefs," though he did support civil unions.

In 2012, though, Reed caved to pressure and signed a resolution by Wan in favor of gay marriage, claiming to "have gone through a good bit of reflection on this issue" and deciding "marriage is a fundamental right for everyone."

Christian Post reports, after firing Cochran, Reed stated that his decision was not based on "personal religious beliefs" but rather on an evaluation of "judgment and management skills."

An internal report conducted by the mayor's office found that there was no evidence that Cochran treated lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender firefighters unfairly.
