Awkward: Wendy Williams Asks Jordin Sparks About Her ‘Purity Ring’

Wendy Williams questions Jordin Sparks about her purity ring on an October 1st airing of the show (EEW Magazine) Once upon a time, sixth season American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, 24, waved the flag of purity, even sporting a promise ring, vowing to remain a virgin until marriage.

But when the singer-actress fell head-over-heels for her now ex pop star boyfriend, Jason Derulo, 25, she traded in her V-card and shacked up with her then lover.

Not surprisingly, self-labeled “messy” gossip queen Wendy Williams needled Sparks about her abandoned virtuous lifestyle during an October 1 appearance on her talk show.

“Are any one of these rings the purity ring?” questioned the hostess who popularized the phrase, “How you doin’?”

Seeming momentarily startled, Sparks quickly flashed all ten of her fingers, smiled and gave a quick head shake, confirming the ring was no longer there.

In 2012, Sparks first showed signs of wavering on her purity commitment during a Today Show interview. When asked about it, she said, "You know what? I switch it from day to day — I don’t wear it exactly everyday anymore, but I always have something there."

And, you know, at the time I was like, ‘Sure that’s great,’ but I can’t say what’s gonna happen a couple of months from now. People grow.”

During her Wendy Williams interview, which was to promote her new movie Left Behind starring Nicolas Cage, the  high-profile public breakup with global sensation Derulo dominated the discussion.

The former couple’s three year relationship seemed promising, particularly when her beau wrote “Marry Me” for his ladylove and featured Sparks in the video. In the lyrics he promised “one of these old days when I get my money right” he would get down on bended knee and propose.

Wendy Williams Show So what went wrong?

Though Sparks told Williams she didn’t want to comment on the events surrounding the split, (though she didn’t rule out infidelity on the part of her ex), Derulo has been airing out his own version of the story, denying any cheating allegations.

“There was a lot of pressure from the marriage perspective,” he said during an interview on Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club” where he told co-hosts DJ Envy and Angela Yee he wanted to clear the air.

“There was a lot of different small things that made our relationship fall a little sour,” Derulo confessed.

Jordin and Jason were featured in a 2013 spread for Glamour MagazineHe also confirmed that the two were sexually active, saying of their sex life, “It definitely wasn’t a problem in that area at all.”

Now that they are officially over, Sparks is contemplating returning the BMW 7-series he gifted to her and he has already moved out of the home she owns.

“I love her and care about her dearly,” Derulo said, while admitting the relationship had been on the decline for a while.

“A situation like this has been going on for a long time and I’ve been feeling like this for a long time. So it’s not like I up and decided today I’m leaving,” he clarified. “I stayed through part of the time where I felt like I was ready to go.”

Derulo broke up with Sparks over the phone.

His reason for doing it that way?

“I wasn’t in town.”
