REALITY BUZZ: Ben Tankard & Family Show Off Wealth In Bravo’s ‘Thicker Than Water’ [VIDEO]

Article By Evette Parsons:: EEW Magazine News Reporter

If you’ve been saying “I can’t take one more Christian reality TV show!” you may want to stop reading this.

Bravo TV has announced its newest docu series, "Thicker Than Water: The Tankards," which features gospel-jazz musician, producer, and songwriter Ben Tankard, his wife Jewel, and their animated family members Benji, Britney, Brooklyn, Cyrene, Diamond, and Shanira.

Calling themselves “The Black Brady Bunch,” the colorful blended family puts their opulent lifestyle on display.

“We live life on the good side. We live in a three-level mansion, seven vehicles to drive, plus, I love my airplanes,” says the Dove Award-nominated artist, gushing about how fabulous it is to be rich in a preview trailer for Bravo.

He continues, “My financial success comes from my musical talent. I’ve been poor. Now I’m rich. Believe me, rich is better.”

Mr. Tankard isn’t the only one bursting at the seams with excitement about how much money and bling his family has amassed over the years. Mrs. Tankard is just as pleased, if not moreso, about the loads of cash they enjoy.

She further opens up in the promo clip about the day she became aware that, according to her, the Lord desired to make her family well-off.

“The first time I realized that God wanted us to be rich, I was a senior in college and I saw this phenomenal man and woman of God standing up preaching the word, and honey, wasn’t nothing broke about ‘em,” she recalls, as shots are shown of her wearing a big hat, sipping on a cold beverage and enjoying the perks of being the wife of a successful musician. “I said ‘Oh Lawd! This is the Jesus that I know.’”

She adds, “The Tankards, we do everything big, as in our Mercedes, airplanes, houses, but, we’re just doing what God called us to do. Sometimes that bothers people, but, somebody’s gotta have it, so, why not us?”

Watch the trailer below. Bravo's "Thicker Than Water: The Tankards" premiers November 10.

This is why no one takes the church seriously

I know there is nothing wrong with having wealth. I am not one of those Christians that thinks everybody has to be broke, busted and disgusted to be saved. BUT there is nothing in the word of God that says it is okay to boast about personal wealth. This is not cute or cool at all.

I have always liked Ben Tankard. Just lost a little respect for him after watching that. I don't approve of all that carnality. smh

Well. O.K.-It would be an understatement to say I'm flabbergasted; I would say I'm saddened to hear Mrs.Tankard so blatantly remake Our Saviour in her world-loving image. Sadly, however,I'm not surprised at all; many in the church have been dancing down this particular Yellow Brick Road for years. (At least the Tankards didn't commit the folly of trying to actually justify their covetousness with Scripture!!)-As for J Ferrell's comment,I know of NO Christians who think you have to be..."Broke,busted,and digusted"to be saved...That comment is silly and ignorant;materialism,or the lack thereof, has NOTHING to do with being saved(or lost), so what are you talking about? I would remind our readers that the "Rich Young Ruler"lost his chance at being saved precisely because his real"god"was his wealth;Jesus went right to the heart of the young man's idolatry(uke 18:18-24) So..."Take heed, and beware of covetousness"...(Luke 12:15),saints,Tankards,christians!! Take Heed!!

This is PURE ignorance, plain and simple. If I see another Christian reality show on tv I think I'm going to scream. It's like a field day for the enemy to make idiots out of all of these so-called "Christian" entertainers. I'm so over this. And to think, I used to like Ben Tankard's music, well I won't buy another CD to support his lavish lifestyle!!

I should have stopped reading too! I enjoy seeing people live well, when it's done legally...but this mess right here..! Boasting is not of God (it's clear in the Word). I am certainly not a hater, I just pray that in all of their flying high in the private planes and doing things "big", they find a way to help others, not for a show...but from their hearts! Not showing up to a homeless shelter on Thanksgiving with a camera crew or making a PSA! Having money is not the problem, but the LOVE of money is....

I kept waiting for a sign of humility. Some sense of gratefulness or appreciation for the favor they enjoy. What came through loud and clear was arrogance and self-importance. I don’t begrudge ANY believer who enjoys God’s blessings. It is the haughty and self-aggrandizing attitude when displaying such wealth that I believe stinks in the nostrils of God.

Ummmmm okay. You're rich and what else? Is the show centered around what you have? YES. Okay, I won't be watching. No one wants to be reminded of what they don't have and what they can't afford. The truth of the matter is there will always be poor saints and heathen for whatever reasons. But there will also be those who have money. “The first time I realized that God wanted us to be rich, I was a senior in college and I saw this phenomenal man and woman of God standing up preaching the word, and honey, wasn’t nothing broke about ‘em.” Are you insinuating that all Christians who struggle desire to stay in their state of struggle? Materialism smh. Hopefully, they'll understand that all the money could be flushed in a day. His abilities to make money could be lost. And the money stops flooding in. Then what do you have. There's nothing wrong with having but we need to focus on what really matters as Christians....not tangible things of this world that can be so easily taken away.

For His Glory...My husband and I designed and built a beautifull 6 bedroom house on a lovely estate and when we began we dedicated it God that it would be a place for family friends and ministry. We open our home to the homeless once a month and sponsor community events, also if anyone needs a place to stay in transition they can stay with us. Its fine to have a beautiful home but it's also important that it is for God's glory. and we have fun and fellowship....Truth Speaks.

This is straight ridiculous and another group of "Christians" who are allowing the world to pimp them; actually, I think this is mutual pimping because the Tankards will benefit financially too. God can't be pleased with this display. The LOVE of money truly is the root of all evil. We have to pray because evil is definitely coming from this.

And....your mythology and fiction doesn't add up....that's why it's super convenient for you to be believing this crap. THINK FOR YOURSELF!!!!! God doesn't exist y'all!

I never posted before but I felt I needed too. I have no idea what the family itself is like, I would assume you are joyful people who have had struggles and success. However, You are going on a public platform under the banner of god. I feel this show reflects pridefulness and greed. I would encourage the family to re-evaluate if this show is truly reflecting what they are about. I hope your family will use your wealth and fame for good. May god guide and bless you all.
