Donnie McClurkin Reacts to Nicki Minaj’s American Idol Shout Out: Calls the Rapper ‘Wonderful’ & ‘Creative’

By Pamela Jacobs:: EEW News & Entertainment

Gospel music great and Grammy Award winner, Donnie McClurkin, was recently mentioned by Young Money rapper Nicki Minaj during a live American Idol broadcast. During the Perfecting Faith Church pastor’s March 25 appearance on Good Day NY, he reacted to her commentary.

“That’s amazing,” said McClurkin, who will be headlining this year’s McDonald’s Gospelfest concert at Newark, NJ’s Prudential Center on May 11.

“The Twitter account went crazy and everybody started telling me, ‘Did you hear what Nicki said?’”

What she said was addressed to 24-year-old now-eliminated American Idol gospel-singing contestant, Curtis Finch Jr. after a stirring performance.

Finch, who is a big Shirley Caesar fan, recently met the 74-year-old on the set of Good Day LA.

“I really, really, really hope and pray that you make that kind of an album,” said Nicki, admonishing Finch to stick to his gospel roots.

She continued, “People need that right now. People are out here hurt. People are hurting. We need that and I’m telling you, like, [stay] on some Donnie McClurkin type of [vibe], like I just want you to stay there Curtis. Don’t try to do the R&B stuff…because this is what we need from you.”

Flattered by the mention, McClurkin returned kind words to Nicki.

“She is a wonderful young woman, creative young woman,” he said, “and really, she’s the only honest judge on the whole show.”

This is not the first time McClurkin has received high praise through mainstream media.

Last fall, OWN Network’s “Iyanla Fix My Life” host,  Iyanla Vanzant, mentioned "Great Is Your Mercy" from the “Donnie McClurkin: Live in London” project that debuted in August 2000.

Both she and Winfrey raved about the melody.

“Download that thing right now!” said the OWN CEO. “I was listening to that thing in Maui. I think it brought me to my knees…Took me down!”

If these people love Donnie so much, it sure hasn't caused them to repent and change, now has it??? And as demonic as Nicki Minaj is, picking on the Catholic Church in her performances and so on, I know she ain't tryin' to get religious on us now!!

Nicki always brings up God. And I cannot say whether or not she's saved/ believes/ whatever. I cannot see her heart. I just know the bible says everyone who says Lord Lord won't reach His kingdom. So we have to examine ourselves. But I love me some Donnie!

Not everyone who says to Me, "Lord, Lord," shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.

Nicki= wolf in sheep 's clothing . Wake up and smell the fraud.

We should never be impressed when the world loves/recognizes us. "If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own." John 15:19 I'm not surprised that Donnie and others were impressed that such a foul mouth person mentioned them. How can you be a friend of the world and Jesus. Nicki Minaj is not a wolf in sheeps clothing, she's a sinner doing what sinners do. Shame on Donnie for even acknowleding this foolishness. He's the wolf in sheep clothing.

Hmm.. I think some of you are looking at this situation entirely wrong here. Ok! Nicki M. isn't the angel of holiness, as oppose to Donnie M. who is held with high regard in the gospel arena. But just take a step back and try to view this situation through the lens of Christ. We know Nicki does not openly raps/sings about the Lord, yet she acknowledged Him! She also acknowledged a man of God, Donnie M. who is widely known for his love and reverence for The King.

Donnie's response to what Nicki said was out of love. For the Word says, with love and kindness (not judgement, hositility, hatred, ridicule) have I drawn thee. Jeremiah 31:3. He raised the adulterous woman from the ground and told her, go and sin no more. He sat with Matthew and the tax collector's, men who were looked upon with anger from the town's ppl-yet Christ sat and ate with them out of Love. Christ turned a murdering, hateful man like Saul, into the Apostle Paul and caused him to become one of the most remembered, and Christ-representative in the New Testament.

So...I truly believe that the Lord DOES work in mysterious ways. This could've been a test for Donnie to see his reaction. And because he reacted with 'love' and not off of Nicki's past, he could have very well planted a seed of Godly deliverance, mercy, grace, and love in Nicki without her even knowing it...well, at least not for now.

Let's not be so quick to judge other's for we too have fallen short of the glory of God sometime or another in our lives. Our names/actions may not be that of Nicki Minaj, but we have fallen just as well and just as God picked us UP, dusted the sin off our lives, and is leading us to the path righteouness ...he can do the same for Miss Nicki as well.

Love,
K~

Ladies, you can lead bees with honey. Just think of sinners as bees. Don't be so judgmental, you were a sinner too. Your sin just wasn't public.

You don't know if Nikki M. has been listening to Donnie's song to help her get through some things, it may be what the Lord is using to prick her heart. We all had to be led to the Shepard.

When I say the show I thought wow, Lord you working on her. The Lord used a woman, some would call a harlot (sounds familiar), to guide that young man to stay in Gospel arena. We don't know what that young performer may be struggling with and if the Lord can use a donkey he can use Nikki M.

Many of you all leaving posts on EEW are so overly harsh and judgemental a lot. Besides the fact that nicki minaj encouraged a young man to stay in gospel and compared him to Donnie was a compliment and a hint that she is listening to something about Jesus. I can't understand Christians sometimes. Nicki is all kinds of wrong in what she promotes....TRUE ENOUGH! However, can the girl give the young man her advice to not to secular music....and for goodness sakes, why does Donnie McClurkin have to be a sheep in wolves clothing for replying to response.....SHESSH!
