Exposed: What We Learn From Gospel Artist Kevin Terry’s Gay Sex Scandal

Article By LT James:: EEW Magazine News Reporter

In January 2013, gospel artist Kevin Terry and his choir “Predestined” were among Bishop Hezekiah Walker’s guests for “Choir Fest” during Stellar Awards weekend in Nashville. Now, just months later, the rising musical talent finds himself smack in the center of a scandalous mess.

The Washington-based choir master's rapacious appetite for gay sex has been captured on a now viral video showing him performing fellatio on an anonymous man. His comeuppance for the foul act? Being put on blast by an anonymous source.

The xxx-rated leaked footage has rocked the urban Internet community and  catapulted Terry into the public spotlight, making him the newest poster child for closeted gay gospel artists.

The story was first broken by a website called Media Takeout.

With a clear shot of Terry's face immortalized on film, which EEW Magazine's inside sources have confirmed is indeed him, the intimate bedroom scene will indisputably go down in history as the death knell of his ministry's crediblity.

Credit: Kevin TerryThough not nearly as high profile as some other leaders, Terry joins the ranks of popular figures known for being entangled in gay relationships like Donnie McClurkin, Eddie Long, and James Cleveland (who died of AIDS).

McClurkin says he is delivered, while Long has chosen not to admit his inappropriate sexual dalliances with young men, but yet, settled out of court when sued by several of his alleged scorned past lovers. Such action has fueled speculation that he is guilty.

Terry is only the latest of the cover-ups to be exposed, with more to come in the future.

So then, what can we learn from this most recent scandalous revelation?

Claiming to be a follower of Jesus Christ, while knowingly leading a double life, will no doubt backfire. In today’s technology era, unlike in earlier historical periods, it is easy for the individuals who have knowledge of a masquerading sinner’s truth, to expose it with just one click of a mouse.

There is no substitute for living righteously.

In Terry’s case, whether his error stemmed from a one-time lapse in judgment or was the result of an ongoing lifestyle choice, the result is the same: his reputation has been severely damaged.

In the words of Proverbs 14:34, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.”

In 2010, while profiling then out singer Anthony Charles Williams II (formerly known as Tonéx, later as B. Slade), the New Yorker interviewed Bishop Yvette Flunder, founder of LGBT-inclusive church, City of Refuge UCC, who made some pretty damaging allegations against the black church.

In her view, “Gospel music is gay music, with vanishingly few exceptions,” wrote Kalefa Sanneh, framing Flunder’s thoughts on the issue. “She estimates that the proportion of gospel performers who are, or have been, same-gender-loving might be as high as ninety per cent.”

The same New Yorker piece asserts, “Gospel music has offered generations of same-gender-loving singers a place to call home, in exchange for their obedience, or their silence.”

But, by degrees, that silence is being broken, either voluntarily or forcibly.

Read Terry’s full statement he posted on his social networking sites (which was later deleted) below:

The wilderness is a place of preparation. To be excellent in life means to be prepared for life at any level… Example (We) get stronger, (We) get wiser and (We) get even better. The supernatural raises up a voice that calls people OUT of the wilderness! No matter where (we) are in life right now, know this: God put (us) on this earth to fulfill the “promise” (He) has predestined for your life. Any form of (agreement) supporting malicious intended attacks cannot stand against a Believer who has a revelation of the power of speaking the scriptures.

*For I am with you, & no one is going to attack & harm you, because I have many people in this city. –Acts 18:10

Mature people who have any intellectual brilliance and/or (real) spiritual—discernment to be jokingly messy v/s what was meant to KILL and/or DESTROY a human-beings destiny. I’m called according to (God’s) PURPOSE. My personal life is irrelevant because God can only judge. We need to put focus and more attention on helping people KEEP LIVING through the trenches of their opposition. I need as-much mercy with my struggles in life as much as you need for YOURS!!!!! YES! (we) ALL have an opinion. However, is your NEGATIVE opinion going to make any DIFFERENCE at this point to help anybody? Let’s put more prayer on it and may God continue to (cover) YOU… his BLAMELESS People!

Watch the video below to see Terry and his choir engage in a full-on praise break during happier times.

Did he say his personal life is irrelevant??? That is not the truth. Alot of times we give people a pass because they are gifted bu the truth of the matter is God allows things to be exposed for a reason. I hope he will get himself together.

I am very saddened that more "prophets' of the day do not expose sin and confront offenders. All thorughout the Bible the TRUE men of God told the truth about wrong. I am glad to see somebody standing up for what is right. This is this young man's David and Jonathan moment. You can't keep praising over mess. YOu have to get your life right. It is a wake up call.

The gospel industry is the place for safe-keeping of deep and dark secrets. I will keep my name anonymous because I know too much but there are a lot of people you would be surprised at the dirt they are doing right now!!!!

There is mercy and forgiveness for him but there must be admission of wrong first. HHe is going to need to own this and apologize.
