There were no vampires present in Genesis 4 when the oldest son of Adam and Eve, Cain, killed his younger brother Abel. But apparently, the biblical biopic is getting a makeover from Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith’s brother with the blessing of Sony Pictures.
According to the Christian Post, the script for "The Redemption of Cain" was written by Caleeb Pinkett, Jada Pinkett-Smith's brother. Francine Maisler is reportedly coming on board as the casting director and vampires will somehow be a part of the modern-day twist on the Old Testament story.
There is no word yet on exactly how the fanged blood-suckers will fit into the film, but from all indications, the Bible is getting the “Twilight” treatment for sure.
Casting begins this month, while production is expected to start in just under a year from now, July 2013, with location shooting to take place in London, Jordan, and Morocco.
Buzz surrounding the film started back in July 2010, when it was reportedly called, “The Legend of Cain,” but was not publicly announced until September 2012.
Though The Redemption of Cain is the buzz of the moment, he isn’t the only biblical character getting the Hollywood treatment.
In April of this year, EEW Magazine reported that Academy Award winning actor, Russell Crowe, has been tapped to play Noah in the Darren Aronofsky movie adaptation.
Scott Franklin and Aronofsky of Protozoa Pictures, along with Mary Parent of Disruption Entertainment, will produce the film. The film will be executive produced by Ari Handel (BLACK SWAN), Arnon Milchan of New Regency and Chris Brigham (INCEPTION, ARGO).
The movie will begin shooting this July in Iceland and New York and is expected to release March 28, 2014.
