GOSPEL BUZZ: BET’s Sunday Best Final Two Remain+ Clark Sisters Offer Advice to New Artists (Video)

By EEW Magazine Entertainment Editors

And then there were two. Danetra Moore and Pastor Michael Lampkin went home last evening on BET’s Sunday Best, leaving only Alexis Spight and Joshua Rogers to compete for the top spot. The Clark Sisters, who appeared on last evening's show, offered the future Sunday Best winner a bit of advice.

Though many agree that this season of the hit gospel reality show has been of its best in terms of featuring outstanding talent, the legendary Clark Sisters aren’t most concerned about vocal ability.

When asked by interviewer Torrence Glenn what advice they would give to those who are new to the industry, Jacky Clark-Chisholm said, “The most important thing, to me, is that you have a committed life to Christ if this is what you really want to do, because, sometimes it’s not really what people want to do,” she noted. “They do it because it’s an opportunity and when an opportunity presents itself, then they say, oh, okay, well I can sing Gospel. Well, see, but then, it’s not just singing Gospel, but you have to live the Gospel.”

Following up on her comments, Dorinda Clark-Cole chimed in, “I think it’s also [about] making sure that you’re connected to a ministry, because it’s more than just having the talent to sing.” According to her, talent can be honed and perfected when someone is nurtured and brought up in a musical environment, but it takes more than that. “When you’re actually connected,” she continued, “it shows that you really have a dedicated life and you have a relationship with God.”

There is clearly a theme developing here: A solid relationship with God first, commitment to ministry second, and pursuing a career last.

Even the “next generation” of the Clark-Moss-Sheard dynasty, Kierra Sheard, echoed the sentiments of her aunts, emphasizing the importance of loyalty to ministry.

“I still sing in the choir, make sure I’m in uniform, and [I’m] still on the praise and worship team,” she shared, and then offered up this advice: “Remain faithful over a few things and God will make you a ruler over many.”

Great words of wisdom.

Watch the BET’s Sunday Best interview with the Clark family and see the ousted contestants say their final goodbyes.

I saw the show last night and those ladies are still anointed singers! It was really good to hear their classic songs again. Kierra also sang beautifully! "Cousin J", was awesome on the show a few weeks ago, as well. Love that family!
