Now that Steve Harvey has said his final tearful goodbye to standup comedy, he can turn his thoughts toward his new role as host of his own daytime talk show. With Oprah Winfrey off the scene, there is a huge void left—one that Christian media personality, Harvey hopes to fill.
So, what can we can expect from his upcoming NBC show? How will it be different from all the rest?
Harvey’s new television venture, which will be taped in Chicago and air in the 3pm time slot, will be plenty funny according to the “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man” New York Times bestselling author. “I am just a firm believer that laughter is so inexpensive and it does the absolute most for people,” he said during an interview with Access Hollywood.
But he’s not after just any people. Harvey wants to connect with “everyday people," something that's not surprising since his annual Hoodie Awards honor ordinary people doing extraordinary things for their communities.
“We’ll have some celebrities on from time to time,” he explained, since he has some celebrity friends who will no doubt want to make appearances on his show. “But what makes people tick the most is everyday people. I think that’s so much more interesting. I think they’ve got so much more to talk about, and they’re so much more relatable.”
Not only are average folks more relatable, but also more reliable. as well. “Celebrities cancel. I’ve been hosting Family Feud for over 500 shows. There has never been a single family that didn’t show up. Everyday people are going to come and be on TV. Celebrities cancel,” he laughed.
