Daily Empowerment: Don’t Worry… God Controls the Storm

Excerpted from Your Daily Cup of Inspiration by Dianna Hobbs (EEW President & CEO)

If you’re facing a challenging test, intense trial, or fierce storm in your life today, don’t worry, God controls the storm! The same Jesus that commanded the strong winds and raging seas to be still in Matthew 8:23-27 is also Lord over your situation and circumstance. Trust Him!

Thus far, flights have been canceled. Schools, colleges, and civic organizations are calling off events.  Our local news stations are cautioning motorists to be careful. Buffalo city officials are preparing residents for the worst, while hoping for the best.

The Buffalo News says we’re “looking at a 21-hour window of mayhem for all of Western New York, with strong winds and saturated ground combining to topple trees, block roadways and take out power lines.”

“A 21-hour window of mayhem” just sounds so ominous and foreboding! The high-wind warning remains in effect until tomorrow afternoon, so everyone is simply waiting to see the outcome.

A little earlier today, a concerned friend checked in on me to find out if my family was in the hurricane’s path, and to make sure we were all prepared for the worst-case scenario.

I let her know that the recommended precautionary measures are in place, but when it comes to those numerous factors beyond our control, we just have to trust God to do the rest.

That’s the best way to approach Hurricane Sandy and any other storm that threatens us—naturally or spiritually. There is only so much we can do from a practical standpoint. Then, we have to believe God, the all-powerful one, to do what we cannot.
