TROUBLE BREWING: President Obama and Arizona Governor Jan Brewer get into Tense Exchange

Haraz N. Ghanbari / AP Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer points at President Barack Obama after he arrived at the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, Wednesday. Brewer greeted Obama and he let her know he didn’t like what she said about him in her book.Be careful if you’re thinking about throwing shade at President Barack Obama. When he sees you, he might not be too shy about letting you know he’s feeling some kind of way about what you said or wrote. On Wednesday, when Obama arrived in Arizona to present his economic plan, he was greeted by Governer Jan Brewer, whom he felt insulted him in her book.

In Brewer’s book, "Scorpions for Breakfast: My Fight Against Special Interests, Liberal Media, and Cynical Politicos to Secure the Border," she describes a meeting she had with Obama at the White House two years ago, calling him condescending. "I felt a little bit like I was being lectured to, and I was a little kid in a classroom, if you will, and he was this wise professor and I was this little kid,” she said, “and this little kid knows what the problem is and I felt minimized to say the least."

The president felt misrepresented in Scorpions for Breakfast and according to Brewer, who spoke to reporters after her tense exchange with Obama on the tarmac, "He was a little disturbed about my book.”

She also told reporters after the testy exchange, "I felt a little bit threatened, if you will, and [a little put off by] the attitude that he had because I was there to welcome him."

Brewer, who has clashed with the president in the past over immigration policy, observed “He was somewhat thin-skinned, a little tense to say the least.”

About getting up in his face and pointing her finger at the president, Brewer said, “I was trying to be very calm. The picture is interesting, I don't remember doing that."

According to a White House official who spoke on the condition of anonymity, Obama told her that in her book, she inaccurately described their last meeting, which the official described as a cordial discussion in the Oval Office.

Reports say Obama walked away from Brewer mid-conversation.

EEW Magazine, The Associated Press, and MSNBC, contributed to this report.
