BREAKING NEWS: Bishop Eddie Long's Wife Officially Files for Divorce, Requests Privacy

It's splitsville for the Longs.

After standing by her man when allegations of homosexual coercion first surfaced against Bishop Eddie Long last year, Vanessa Long, wife of the pastor of New Birth Church in Atlanta, filed for divorce today according to WBSTV 2 news station. In a statement, she said, "After a great deal of deliberation and prayer, I have decided to terminate my marriage to Bishop Eddie L. Long.”

“I ask that you respect my privacy and that of my family, as my attorneys and I have agreed that we will not try this case in the media, and I do not intend to make any further statements concerning this matter,” she said. “I also ask that the public pray for my entire family during this difficult period of transition.”

Back in June 2011, rumors surfaced that Vanessa Long was leaving her husband, but the New Birth pastor quickly denied the validity of those reports.

The two were married in 1990 and have 3 children together.

Praying for all involved.

I knew this was coming. From the way everything was handled with the case from the beginning I knew Eddie Long was hiding something. This is so sad.

Are we really surpised? If the answer to that is yes then the question is should we be? I mean we all know he is guilty. And even if Mrs. Long doesn't like it, this will be tried in the court of public opinion. It already has been and you don't get to be private when you are a pubic figure.

Let the speculations start. Here we go! We don't know WHY she left and it's none of our business anyway.

@Andrea, girl are you serious? We do know why she left. Let's not be naive and too holy for our own good here. The man is a closeted homosexual and Vanessa found out the truth, so she packed her bags and hit the road. End of story. Now the remaining group of brainwashed members will follow her and eventually Eddie Long will be a distant memory because he will be stripped of his pastorate at New Birth too.

It is a shame that Eddie Long has not come out about what's really going on. I mean his wife is leaving him. He has all these allegations against him. He needs to come clean. His life is already ruined anyway. @Andrea, girl stop! We know why that woman left him.

December 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterShame Shame Shame

My heart goes out to Mrs. Long. She stood by him. These two have been together for a long time and have children together. I can't imagine how badly she must be hurting. God give her strength!

I just think we need to join EEW and pray for all involved, because this is a mess.

This whole thing is a disgrace to the black church forreal. Sickening man.

December 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterTyrone

I really knew in my heart this was only a matter of time coming so I am not surprised.

December 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterCarol

This should have happened a long time ago. I know she's hurting and all that stuff, but she made the right decision. Good for her!

December 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMiMi

This is a hysterical sideshow!

December 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterHysterical

'Hysterical' I honestly don't see anything funny here. This is a sad shame is what it is.

December 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnnette

From one Vanessa to another, good for you girl! He doesn't deserve you anyway. God has better.

December 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterVanessa

For all of you judging Lady Vanessa and thinking she stayed too long, you don't know Bishop Eddie Long. I used to go to his church, and when everything first came out I was upset, but he was very convincing. Over time there were too many discrepancies in the story and I couldn't take it anymore, but I stayed probably longer than I should. So you don't know how hard it is to leave without being in those shoes. I was just a MEMBER this is his WIFE! I'm praying for Lady Vanessa too.

December 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterFormer New Birth Member

Can somebody come and pick my lip up off the floor puh-lease! Am I the only one shocked? I thought these two would ride it out. I mean she's been there this long.
